Sheriff Tim Cameron
Vision - Accountability - Leadership

CALEA ACCREDITATION

The St. Mary's Sheriff's Office is a CALEA accredited law enforcement agency.

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies accreditation and re-accreditation
process confirms a continuing commitment to international policing standards.

MCCS ACCREDITATION

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office undergoes a bi-annual audit for the Detention Center conducted by
the Maryland Commission on Correctional Standards.

The Sheriff's Office has been continually scored a compliance rate of 100 percent.

D.A.R.E. and HIGH SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAMS

Tim re-established the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program in our schools and further enhanced
the School Resource Officer Program.

Currently there is a SRO (School Resource Officer) in every high school in St. Mary's County. By mid-2014,
plans are to have a SRO in every middle school as well.

Additionally, volunteer deputies participate in the award winning Adopt-A-School program. This program
provides increased visibility in and around the schools, as well as a resource for school administration,
staff and teachers.

COMPSTAT

In 2007, Tim brought the CompStat (Computer Statistics) program to St. Mary's County. This changed the focus of the Sheriff's Office from a reactive agency to a proactive one, committed to quality of life issues in
communities. This program leveraged technology and information (trends) to identify criminal enterprise.

SOUTHERN MARYLAND INFORMATION CENTER

The SMIC (Southern Maryland Information Center) center tracks local and regional crime and gang
activities on a tri-county level.

The SMIC links local crime information to the statewide Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center.
This enables the Sheriff's Office to close down criminal enterprise, make multiple arrests, and solve
cross border crimes.

PATROL TECHNOLOGY

Committed to technology to better serve the community, Sheriff Cameron was responsible for the
installation of MDB (Mobile Date Browsers), In-car cameras, E-TIX (electronic ticketing) and LPR
(license plate reader) units in police vehicles.

PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER

Tim established a Public Information Officer / Media Representative for the Sheriff's Office. The PIO
provides the latest agency information on activities to the media and public. This is done via
traditional press releases, as well as the Sheriff's Office website and social media outlets.

COMMUNITY ALERTS EMAIL SYSTEM

Originally formed as the B-ALERT program - the Lexington Park Business Alert System, this program
was expanded to the C-ALERT program - an eMail program designed to increase communication and
distribute targeted information to specific communities within St. Mary's County.

SOCIAL MEDIA OUTLETS

The Sheriff's Office extends it's proactive Community Policing concepts via social media, such as Twitter,
Facebook and Nixle.

Nixle is a secure public safety notification system that provides eMail, and text
alerts and advisories.

CITIZEN ADVISORY BOARD

The Citizen Advisory Board meets with Tim on a monthly basis, acting as a conduit of the diverse
communities in St. Mary's. The CAB hears presentations of various Sheriff's Office operational
aspects, as well as presentations from other law enforcement and public safety professionals in
St. Mary's County.

This group conducts community meetings throughout St. Mary's County, which enhances
communication between the public and the Sheriff's Office.

CRIMEREPORTS.COM

During Tim's tenure, the Sheriff's Office has joined CrimeReports.com. This website provides a platform
for any member of the public to track crime and sex offenders in their area. Alerts can be set up for
notification of individual concerns.

SEX OFFENDER MONITORING

Tim is dedicated to continue to manage and track registered sex offenders in St. Mary's County. The
Sheriff's Office conducts regular compliance checks at the offenders' home and work.

The Sheriff's Office has it's own Sex Offender Monitoring section with a permanently assigned
Detective with administrative support.

DETENTION CENTER PROGRAMS

The Sheriff's Office has established an offender reintegration methodology at the Detention Center. Life
skills and educational programs enable inmates to work toward a high school diploma. This reduces
recidivism.

The Detention Center expansion project was developed by staff. It provides an exceptional facility to
manage inmates, conduct programs that will reduce recidivism and it establishes a safe environment for
staff and inmates as well as a safer facility for the surrounding community.

DDACTS and CTEP PROGRAMS

The DDACTS (Data Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety) integrates location based crime and
traffic crash data to determine the most effective methods for deploying law enforcement resources.
Drawing on the deterrent value of highly visible traffic enforcement and the knowledge that crimes often
involve motor vehicles, the goal of DDACTS is to reduce crime, crashes and traffic violations in
St. Mary's County.

The CTEP (Comprehensive Traffic Enforcement Plan) is based on accident data with constant review to
determine enforcement efforts best suited for the needs of St. Mary's County communities.

K-9 PROGRAM

Tim has also reorganized the Sheriff's Office K-9 unit. The Sheriff's Office now has a nationally accredited
trainer, acquired new dogs and added handlers.

Typically there is one patrol dog on duty around the clock. The Sheriff's Office also has it's own drug dogs,
bomb dogs and a bloodhound working for the citizens of St. Mary's County.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INTERVENTION

Under Tim's watch, the Sheriff's Office has established the LAP (Lethality Assessment Program).
LAP screens victims of domestic violence and provides immediate follow up. This SAVES LIVES.

Tim is also a member of the Family Violence Coordinating Council - Agency participation in this
council improves total response, investigation, protection, prosecution and follow up care to
victims of domestic violence.

LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT COORDINATION COUNCIL

This program was established by Tim. This group is comprised of all law enforcement leaders in St. Mary's
County. They meet quarterly to discuss trends, share resources and support collaboration for the benefit
of the public.
