Tim was born in 1958 in Leonardtown, the son of Roy R. and Elizabeth K. Cameron. As a child Tim lived on the farm of his grandparents, William and Lydia Abell, in St. Inigoes. He graduated from Bishop McNamara High School, Forestville MD, in 1977.
Tim did his post graduate studies at Massanutten Military Academy, Woodstock VA and undergraduate studies at James Madison University, Harrisonburg VA.
Tim began his law enforcement career with the Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Joe Lee Somerville in July 1980. During his thirty three year career, Tim was promoted through the ranks, serving in every division of the Sheriff’s Office.
He was honored to be elected as the 133rd Sheriff of St. Mary’s County in December 2006.
Since being elected your Sheriff, Tim has continued his education to better serve the citizens of St. Mary’s County. In May 2006, Tim received his Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Johns Hopkins University. In May 2007, Tim received his Master of Business Administration from the prestigious Police Executive Leadership Program at Johns Hopkins University. He has since completed the Executive Leaders Program in February 2010 at the Naval Post Graduate School, Center for Homeland Defense and Security, in Monterey CA. Tim is also a graduate of the 92nd Class of the National Sheriff’s Institute, Session 66 of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Course and Session 14 of the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission Leadership Challenge.
Tim has been married to his wife Angie for 16 years. His two boys, Scott and Shawn attend St. Mary’s County schools.
During his off-time, Tim enjoys spending time with his boys, who are big fans of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Baseball Team.
Tim and his family are proud to call St. Mary’s County “home”.
